Westhampton Beach High School senior Jane Paulson has been named a U.S. Presidential Scholars Program candidate by the U.S. Department of Education. She is one of only 34 students on Long Island to receive this nomination.

Paulson’s recognition is based on her exceptional SAT and ACT scores, having joined an elite group of students in earning a perfect ACT score as a junior. She is also a National Merit Commended Scholar and earned National AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Honor and AP Scholar with Distinction designations from the College Board. In addition, she is a recipient of the George Eastman Young Leaders Award.

During her high school career, Paulson has served as treasurer of the National Honor Society, participated in the Interact Club and Beyond Language Barriers Club, and played varsity softball. Outside of school, she is co-founder of Sunrise WHB, a group that advocates for the environment. She is also a Girl Scout and is involved with the DemocracyReady NY youth leadership initiative and the League of Women Voters.
