The Westhampton Beach School District is pleased to announce that a Westhampton Beach High School senior has been selected as a semifinalist in the 2022 National Merit Scholarship Program. In addition, six seniors have been named Commended Students.

Gavin Ehlers is among approximately 16,000 semifinalists nationwide who qualified for the honor based on their high 2020 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test scores. He will advance to compete for one of more than 7,500 National Merit Scholarships totaling about $30 million. Scholarships will be announced in the spring of 2022.

Receiving Letters of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation were seniors James Daniels, Andre Insalaco, Ali Jedlicka, Joseph Litjens, Josephine Perl and Madison Quinn. They were among 34,000 students who earned the designation, also for their exceptional scores on the 2020 PSAT.

More than 1 million juniors complete the testing each year and are automatically entered into the National Merit Scholarship Program.

The district extends its congratulations to these hardworking students.
