Westhampton Beach High School’s star runner Trevor Hayes took first place in the boys 2,000-meter steeplechase competition at the New York Relays meet at Icahn Stadium with a time 6:02.3 — a new Westhampton Beach High School record.

This is not Hayes’ first impressive run. He previously earned an All-American title following his performance at the Nike nationals. To acquire the title, Hayes took fifth place out of a field of 48 runners in the 2,000-meter steeplechase.

Hayes started running in eighth grade after earning an All-County award in tennis as a seventh grader. Since committing to running, Hayes has received multiple All-County, All-League and All-State recognitions in all three seasons of competitive running – cross-country and indoor and outdoor track. He also qualified for the Nike National Outdoor Championships in 2021, 2022 and 2023 in both the steeplechase and one-mile run.

As for academics, Hayes has earned a prestigious 2023 Heisman High School Scholarship award as part of the annual Heisman High School Scholarship competition. He is an honors student and a member of his school’s National Honor Society, for which he serves in the role of parliamentarian. He is also an Eagle Scout.

Hayes intends to study mechanical engineering in college.

The Westhampton Beach School District extends its congratulations to Trevor Hayes on this impressive accomplishment.
