Westhampton Beach Elementary School students raised more than $30,000 for their school through their annual Hurricane Fun Run, held Sept. 27.

As part of the PTA-sponsored event, students gathered pledges to run laps on the high school football field. To provide incentive to the students for the fundraising effort, Principal Jeremy Garritano promised to sleep on the school’s roof if students managed to raise $20,000. They far surpassed that goal, and Garritano spent the night of the Sept. 27 on the school’s roof in a tent.

All of the funds raised will go directly toward cultural and academic enrichment programs at the elementary school.
