The Westhampton Beach School District congratulates senior Zach Berger on being named to Newsday’s Top 10 Long Island Boys Golf Players list. Berger earned the recognition as a six-year varsity player with a two-time All-Long Island title. He also shot 69 and 74 to tie for fifth in the 2025 state tournament and is slated to compete again in 2026. He is committed to play at Loyola University in Maryland.

Seniors Named Top Softball Players

The Westhampton Beach School District congratulates seniors Katie Burke and Addison Celi on once again being named to Newsday’s Top 100 Long Island Softball Players list. Burke was named for batting .609 with five home runs, 37 RBIs and 35 runs last season, and Celi for amassing a total of 728 career strikeouts and being named to Newsday’s All-Long Island second team in 2024.

The Westhampton Beach School District congratulates three student-athletes on being named to Newsday’s Top 100 Long Island Girls Lacrosse Players list. Ava Derby, a senior who will be attending the University of Maryland, was named for making 31 goals, 19 assists, 32 ground balls, 44 draw controls and 15 caused turnovers last season. Senior Maiya Boughal, who will be attending Dartmouth College, was recognized as a “versatile midfielder” whose record last season includes 45 draw controls, 38 goals, five assists, 16 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers. Mia Brown, a junior who has already committed to the University of Maryland, earned recognition as a top goalie in the nation.

Historic win: Westhampton Beach claims Long Island Championship

The Westhampton Beach High School girls varsity basketball team captured the Class AA Long Island Championship with a victory over Garden City High School on March 11 at Stony Brook University.

The championship marks a historic achievement for the program. It is the team’s first Long Island title since 2005. The Hurricanes delivered a strong performance on the court, demonstrating teamwork, determination and resilience throughout the game to secure the win.

With the Long Island Championship in hand, the team now advances to the state tournament. Westhampton Beach will face Nyack in the state quarterfinals at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 13, at Yorktown High School.
