For their final class project, the students in Nicolette Galante’s French class at Westhampton Beach High School translated and read books to fifth graders at the district’s elementary school. They chose a picture book and took on the role of translator to translate their favorite childhood stories into French. The high schoolers were required to identify vocabulary they knew already and words they needed to research, review grammar unique to their stories, and practice pronunciation and phonetics to improve their accents.
