The Westhampton Beach School District Board of Education recently presented a Great Hurricane Award to Scott Leogrande, a physical education/health teacher and athletic trainer at Westhampton Beach High School.
Leogrande was honored for his dedication to students and the district. “We are incredibly proud to recognize Scott Leogrande,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Carolyn Probst. “His dedication to our student athletes and all the students he teaches are a tremendous asset to the district.”
Leogrande has taught in the Westhampton Beach School District for the past 30 years. He began his career in the district in 1995 as an athletic trainer after earning his degree in sports medicine and health from Ohio Northern University. He has since earned his master’s degree in physical education from Adelpi University, allowing him to teach physical education and health. In addition, he teaches CPR/first aid, through which students gain certification in both areas, and Introduction to Sports Medicine, where students can earn three college credits through Adelphi University.
Leogrande is also a member of the NYS Teachers Association and the National Athletic Trainers Association.
“I feel honored and thankful for this award,” said Leogrande. “It is always nice to be recognized by your peers. Westhampton Beach is a special place for me, and I look forward to finishing my career here.”
The Great Hurricane Award aims to honor staff throughout the year who make a difference every day within the school district. “A hurricane is a storm of indomitable force, but more than that, here in Westhampton Beach, it stands for honor, hard work, dedication, loyalty and tradition,” said Dr. Probst.
